Sunset somewhere

Not the most exciting of flights, 11 hours 35 minutes in a darkened tube hurtling westwards towards Los Angeles over Scotland, Orkney, Iceland, Greenland, Baffin Island, Northern Canada, the Prairies and eventually over the mountains to California.

I was sitting looking out over the wing which cut out most of the view, which didn’t seem to matter for most of the journey as all I could see was cloud, sunsets and deep blue space.

Watched too much on the screens, snoozed a bit. Despite the time and distance the journey seemed to fly by! One fascinating aspect of the flight path was that it skirted the boundary between night and day most of the way so the sun rose and set several times eventually rising in the west as we tracked southwards towards the end of the journey. It was mid afternoon when we touched down in Los Angeles.

The trip to Heathrow worked out better than I hoped. The 6.27 train was on time, arrived on time, tubes were quiet which meant that I turned up at the airport and was through security having a bowl of porridge and a coffee by 9.45.

The flight arrived 30 minutes early which was then wasted by having to sit on the plane at the gate for that time while some customs issue or other was sorted out. Quickly through customs and with no baggage to collect was soon out waiting for Chris to pick me up.

It was a couple of hours to get to San Marcos in heavy traffic even though we were able to use the High Occupancy Vehicle Lane. Good to be back and to greet a very excited Babe. Looking forward to seeing Landon in Friday.
