a lifetime burning

Old Harbour Reykjavik

Yesterday evening, after I blipped we went swimming at the Laurdaslaug pool.  It was 1C but the water was beautifully warm.  The very strong winds meant that it was best to keep as much of one's body under the water as possible.  After a few lengths of the 50m outdoor pool we joined the Icelanders in the various hot pot pools to stretch out and relax.  At one point it did start hailing but fortunately it turned to snow fairly quickly :-)

We left Reykjavik this morning and are now ensconced in our log cabin some miles from civilisation. Getting here was fun but our four wheel drive with studded winter tyres coped manfully with the snow.  After a stop for lunch and a visit to the supermarket to stock up on provisions for the next few days we set off again, although by now it had started to rain/sleet.  A slick of water on top of the ice packed roads made driving the last 20km quite interesting, but we took it steadily and the car stayed the right way up and on the road.
