Vertical Farming

Gales last night and rain, lots and lots of rain.  When we went to bed last night we were in an arctic scene, but this morning most of the snow was gone.  The wind and rain have been a feature of the day.  There have been a couple of dry intervals, but they've been few and far between.  A difficult day for photography then. I've been trying my best to get a few shots and in between times have been carefully toweling the camera dry.

As we drove along, exploring, we saw lights in the distance.  Intrigued we stopped to investigate and I took this shot.  It was taken at about 12:30 - so  a good two plus hours after dawn here.  But as you can see, it wasn't a very bright day!

Iceland has a large number of vertical farms, growing all sorts of fruit and veg out of season.  These glass houses were busy growing cucumbers.  They were part of a much larger series of glass houses growing everything from salad to strawberries.

We are due more snow shortly and it should get colder again, -7C in one forecast.  Who knows?  We shall just have to wait and see.
