The lone swan

Today was colder than I expected, and still grey and damp. We had planned to walk somewhere that has good views over the Surrey hills but I thought it was a bit pointless on such a dull day so we went to our local woods again - we are lucky in that they are extensive with many different areas to walk yet they all link up as one huge woods.

I have noticed there is a new resident swan at Black Pond - in all the years I have been walking there I cannot remember swans on this pond, but this chap moved in a couple of months ago and he looks quite lonely, so I hope he will soon find a mate as he is the only swan on that pond. Not sure how that happens, one wonders how a partner is found.

After our walk we went for a coffee at the local coffee shop, the one where Thomas worked in the summer. It was good to see it was very busy, they had many customers today including Andy Murray who lives down the road from us so he is considered a local (although has houses elsewhere too). He is much taller than he looks on TV!

Today is unusual as it is Chinese New Year and Burns Night on the same day, something that won't happen again for 76 years. Sadly many New Year celebrations in China have been curtailed due to the coronavirus. I will be celebrating Burns Night next week at book club when our Scottish member hosts it and it is always something to look forward to.

A quiet weekend so we are going out to supper tonight to one of our local restaurants.
