Cafezique, Partick, Glasgow's West End

At first glance this cafe-restaurant's exterior may look as if it is badly in need of attention. However, the exposed paintwork goes back to a different era when these premises housed Hagan's Dairy. With the streetscapes of this historic area being fiercely valued, the new owners of this upmarket eatery, in 2008, uncovered and retained the old signage from the dairy and an even older occupant, and the fragmented decoration is now their trademark and signals traditional and well sourced quality produce. It is undoubtedly doing a famous trade. Its delicatessen sister operation, Delizique, is just a few doors up and I was there returning some wooden platters from party fare picked up on the previous Saturday. And very tasty it was too!
To add human interest I waited till a young couple came along. Their clothing nicely complemented the wall decor! Glasgow University is close-by and a vibrant student population lives in the vicinity although I suspect it's the gentry from adjacent 'Hyndland-on-the-Hill' who can afford Cafezique's somewhat pricy evening meals. It was a lovely bright sunny morning but this was the shady side of the street. My compact Panasonic Lumix was set to Intelligent ISO maximum 400, and it automatically selected 100 ISO which seemed sufficient at 1/80th to allow a shutter speed fast enough to freeze movement and minimise shake. If I 'd paid more attention I'd probably have set the ISO to 400 manually to allow a higher shutter speed.
