Missing NOAA

forlorn in the fog,
dear NOAA's docks are changing
who will work here now?

NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration lived at this site on Lake Union for almost 50 years before they set sail for Newport, Oregon a year or so ago. I always enjoyed walking or rowing past the huge research vessels. One could never go beyond the gates on Fairview before however, so today when we walked by, and the gate was open, we took a look. Most of the 8 acres (less than 2 are on land) have been bought by U.S Seafoods (for $9million) who are tearing down a wharf, seen here, and renovating some of the 2 piers. It's good it will still host a water oriented working business, but a small portion was bought by the Ducks, those amphibian tour bus/boats with the loud music, and that is causing neighborhood alarm and is subject to debate over just how they will use it. (Just launch some of their vehicles from here? or begin a tour with all the parking issues?)

part of my One Street/ Fairview. these are not in any geographic order along the street...it was a great walk for photos today along the lake, the fog lifted a little, but I might not get in to this site again...
