A four country trip to reach destination

After a 2am start with 5 suitcases, a colleague and I were off to Liberia. She is focused on project management and my mission is Biomonitoring, all of it. The details will become clearer over the next two weeks. Departing London Heathrow, we transferred in Brussels and stopped for an hour in Freetown, Sierra Leone before arriving in Monrovia, Liberia. Given currently my only reference to Monrovia is from Lord of War starring Nicolas Cage and to Liberia generally reading endless work reports, I am excited for this opportunity to learn more about this place. I am not a great ape specialist (never seen one, even my marine specialist brother is one up on me with that), or one of rainforest environments, I feel a little out of my depth but going with my gut instinct and logic on most things. Tomorrow we are joined by another work colleague from the UK who is indeed a specialist in all these things and we share a passion for monitoring of all sorts and I look forward to learning more from her over the next two weeks. Tomorrow I look forward to meeting the dedicated team of colleagues based here and prepping for a visit to Sapo National Park the following day.
Todays picture features the Pyrenees mountain range between France and Spain, home to some very rare birds.
