Let there be (new)(white) light

Strange day today - damp and drizzly at first, then a hail storm, now sunshine. 

Men are at work outside my neighbour's house in the road below, replacing the yellow sodium street lamps with white LED heads. 70 watt replaced with 30 watt, the man told me, though going by indoor bulbs the brightness may well be the same. We're well above the height of the street lamps, tho' there's a yellow glow about the place - maybe a white glow will be better.

Man was complaining that as the council doesn't replace staff who leave, he and his new apprentice (the one doing the work) are the only street lighting men between Campbeltown and Appin, which is a distance of more than 100 miles. He wasn't very happy about it! Wait 'til next year I told him - the council's 20/21 budget is being cut by 9 million!
