The first

The tiny tête-à-tête daffodils are usually the first to flower, and they are so welcome. They look so perky. There are bulbs springing up all over the garden now and it is the best time of the year in our garden.
Another tree has fallen close to our boundary. It was a mature beech, but it was growing on a steep slope. It has always been a mystery how it managed to cling on and it was growing at an angle. Our neighbours ( on whose land it grew) heard it fall at about 3 am but we didn’t hear it go. It was a similar size to the one that was felled the year before last, and that was shown to be 200 years old. So that is three large trees we have lost within the last eighteen months, all on our western boundary. It has changed our outlook, but at least we can now see the evening sky.
