I really am

Thieves stole the catalytic converter off our car this evening about 7.20.

We heard a scraping noise coming from outside, went to investigate only to see two men run through our gate to a nearby parked car and drive off. Paula thought immediately what had happened as she has recently read how this is happening, she started the car and the noise was horrendous she then got a torch and checked underneath and there was definitely something missing, the CAT Converter.

We rang 101 gave details, someone rang us back later and gave us an incident number and sent a confirmation through as an email. Later after we got over the shock we rang the insurance company and as far as they are concerned due to the age of the car and probably the cost of the job refitting one, it's classed as a write off, they will come and see it next week and give us market value. So we are car less now and have to look for another, they will loan us a courtesy car for 14 days.

These thieves don't realise and don't care what problems and distress they cause for  the people they steal from. So watch your cars as it's rife all over the country, and whereas they tend to choose certain cars (Toyota's) as they have higher value CATs but no car is safe as I have found out tonight when I posted on our local Kippax news forum on Facebook. others have had them stolen from different cars.

I wouldn't care but we are at the top of the cul de sac and there is a street light right outside. They must have been quiet because Tanzy never heard them and she is usually pretty alert to sounds outside, but the person at the police incident room said they are very quick and quiet.
Unfortunately the neighbours who overlook our drive both go to bed at about 7 and watch tv in bed so wouldn't have seen anything

Someone has been casing the streets and seen our Toyota Prius and as I said they are the ones generally hit.

I wouldn't care but we had a lovely afternoon as my sister in law and her husband came to see us, they live in Liverpool, and we had a good old catch up, and now this.
