Blow it again, Gran

We head to the croquet but in Great Bedwyn for a birthday lunch. There’s a choice of nut roast, chicken, pork, or lamb. Platters of roast parties, broccoli gratiné, parsnip, swede, carrots.

Then out comes grannies birthday cake, made by Oscar (with some help, I guess). It’s light and fluffy, kept on the plate by pounds of smooth chocolate icing.

We all go back to the house, but the Bournemouth contingent don’t stay long. Josie hasn’t ever watched Casablanca, so we luxuriate in black and white classicism, sipping whisky and suggesting the vat lunch.

After Josie and Jol leave, we dial up Play It Again, Sam on the telly (which mum has never watched). What a great double bill.
