No Pecans In Winter

< back blippie >

The local pecan groves are pretty bare this time of year. I don't even see much new growth sprouting yet. Maybe this recent spurt of warm weather hasn't affected the trees yet.

As the temperatures level off to be more seasonal, rising from our current averages of about 67/43F, little bits of green will start to grow from the tips of the branches.

The sad things to see this winte was the obliteration of large swaths of the orchard to make way for new roads and the laying of infrastructure for new housing developments.

The Green Valley pecan grove is the largeest irrigated pecan grove in the world.

This is what the trees look like when they are full of pecans.
