Anatole's blips

Sunset in Moominland

Up at the treeline. The trees cling on to life here on the edge. They suffer huge annual encrustations of snow and rime, frequently bending them right over and breaking off the tops. Any further upslope and the winter damage is too great to survive.

A day on snowshoes today. Up the 'Devil's gulley and over to the far top of Kesänkitunturi. Shallow grey snowclouds swirl up and around us on the neighbouring hills till we were the last hill spotlit by the sun as it set. We chose well today.

Extra: the way down from above the treeline.
