Blipbear considers mountain climbing

- I am just sitting here waiting for the cloud to lift, so I can see the top.
Then off I go!

We visited Egmont National Park this morning and were stunned by the close view of Mt Taranaki, a 2518m volcanic cone dominating the landscape. We had to wait a while, as the mountain was at first covered in cloud. Gradually this lifted and we caught a glimpse of the summit, although the cloud continued to swirl around the mountain most of the time we were there. None of us actually reached the summit, or even got near, as it is quite a trek, but we did a few of the shorter walks around the lower slopes.

We also managed a visit to a fascinating Modern Art Gallery and walked over the Te Rewa Rewa Bridge. We leave New Plymouth tomorrow and drive down to Wellington.

For a closer view of Mt Taranaki from a different side see here. Those who have seen The Hobbit, might be interested to know that this was The Lonely Mountain.

After this picture there are two views of Te Rewa Rewa Bridge in New Plymouth (part of the Walkway I blipped yesterday), one with Mt Taranaki in the background.
