Dick Turpin's Cottage

Well, that's the legend anyway. There is little evidence that the infamous highwayman lived in the house let alone the village. But, never let facts get in the way of a good story.

This is in Thaxted in Essex. We were there with our friends Al and Liz as part of the day with them which consists of coffee, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and chat. It's a very fine town or village with many buildings of interest and lots of history. Well worth a visit for the architecture alone. A large church based on the wealth created from a prosperous cutlery industry, windmill, Guildhall (Moot Hall) and a place where Gustav Holst once lived.
