Crestfallen Coot

Last week I blipped Hector the Coot; this coot represents the other end of the pecking order... This is one of the coots that, unfortunately, spends its life being chased away by Mount Pond's more dominant coots. It is quite little and dainty so perhaps it is still young, but in any case its existence is rather fraught with peril (poor thing). It is here standing on the ice because it was chased from the water by a coot not dissimilar to Hector in build and attitude (perhaps it is a cousin, or was trained at the same finishing school).

The ice looks lumpy because I took this at the tail end of a minor hailstorm!

p.s. Look at its ridiculous foot!
p.p.s. I blipped an NHM HDR picture rather late last night, so fewer people than usual saw it; do take a look if stained glass and symmetry appeals!
