A Lovely Purple Flower

Another quite lovely day - somewhat overcast with the highs around 62 F (16.6 C). It's going to rain tonight and through tomorrow and Saturday - so they say. We can really use the rain at this point so it will be good.

Visited my mom and dad today in Vancouver, WA - for some reason the traffic was exceptionally light...are people staying home because of the Coronavirus? At any rate it made the drive a breeze for a change.

When I got home mid-afternoon it was nice enough to go outside and putter 'round the garden for a couple of hours...the cats were delighted and hung out with me the whole time. Neighbors stopped by to chat and pat the cats. It's always fun when it's nice enough to be outside long enough to catch up with the people in the 'hood.

There's some interesting stuff blooming including the fuzzy Pasque Flower from a few days ago, but the light wasn't right for a good photo. I'll catch it another day.

So here's Vinca major 'Maculata' - an introduction from Proven Winners. This one is bred for use in pots (and I suppose flower beds) and is not aggressive like the regular periwinkle. I really do love the variegation on the leaves...and today it produced its first blossom! It is in a pot with the towering kale post from three days ago...and you can see a glimpse of it in this Tea Party photo from 7 January.

Happy Spring!
