Sunrise from Grafton Bridge

Woke before sunrise this morning and decided to seek a sunrise photo. Walked and ran in a large arc to get to Grafton Bridge . Fortuitously arrived as the sun was emerging above the trees behind a gap between beuildings, where I could get an unobstructed view through a small viewing hole in the perspex protective barrier.

Some things continue to happen regardless of what we humans do to the world or ourselves. Sunrise is one of those things. As such it is a bright beacon of hope, if we choose to see it, and respond.

The New Zealand Prime Minister has announced strong measures to reduce the chance of an overwhelming epidemic here due to CoVid-19. Following consultation with Infectious Diseases experts, and appropriate others, the Government has taken steps which should protect the health of our citizens, as much as that can be done.

Damage will be done to some businesses which depend on free influx of travellers from overseas, or from large gatherings of persons in a small place. People had already started doing some of that. S' brother and his wife travelled back to Melbourne last Saturday and the cabin they were in was almost empty aside from themselves.

Before being told that I couldn't travel to the College meeting in Edinburgh, I had decided that I would not take the risk, small as it seemed at that time. Instead, I will have some relaxing weeks locally.
