Schools closed

We're used to seeing the schools closed on Fridays because it's a 4-day school week here, but we're not used to seeing this playground empty. It was quite early, around 9:30, so maybe too early for children to be out playing.
Spring Break was scheduled from March 16 to the 26 in most school districts in the province, but now schools won't be reopening when the break is over. Apparently teachers will still be going in to try to figure out what happens next, and the speculation is that they may be asked to move their classes online. The Education Minister announced on March 17 that all students who are currently on track to move onto the next grade or to graduate will do so. As a retired teacher, I hope that everything works out for the kids, the teachers, the administrators, and all the support staff who keep the schools functioning.
This is undoubtably a difficult time for parents who have to find childcare, although many parents might be laid off work as well, with more businesses closing every day.
We had to go to town today and it was very quiet everywhere, barely any traffic and hardly anyone walking around. There were signs in the grocery store to be conscious of social distancing and that debit or credit cards were preferable to cash. Many people were wearing gloves but no one wearing masks. We thought we'd be able to drop off our recycling, but there was a long line in the narrow road to the centre. We were just turning around to leave when we saw one of the workers coming down the road. They were allowing only one car in at a time, and he said that it would be an hour to an hour and a half for us to wait if we wanted to get in line. We decided not to wait. We won't be going back to town anytime soon.
Monday will be 4 weeks since I had hernia surgery, and I had an appointment scheduled with the surgeon for next Wednesday. I got a phone message that he'll be calling me instead. I'm glad that I'll be able to ask the few questions that I have because there was no way I was going to travel to Vancouver Island if the office was open. It isn't.
Extra: good thing it was quiet in town because this guy crossing the street was oblivious. He didn't look to see if any cars were coming, and it looked like he was videotaping where he was walking. Terrible photo taken through the car window, but I was curious about what he was doing.
Hope all blippers are staying safe.
