A Card from William

Mothering Sunday. I had three cards, two from George and Kat and this lovely one from William for his Grandma. Plus a daffodil that had got knocked down by playing football in the garden. They came over yesterday but did phone this morning.

You can't see the inside of the card but it contains a scrawl wishing me well and a beautiful black hand print.

Stacey, who grooms Basil, sent out a text message today saying she was having to close her business. Apart from anything else, she's going to have to stay home to school her son. It's a real shame but with no money coming in, she doesn't seem to have any other options. I think Len and I shall have to get a grooming set for Basil.

Glorious sunshine today and the wind had abated. Basil and I walked around Nanpantan Reservoir again. It can only be a matter of time before it is closed to visitors. The Outwoods car park was closed because people had been thronging there and not been observing social distancing. I despair of our population. They can neither read nor understand public health measures. They don't even make the effort to pass at two metres. As a result, all outdoor sites are likely to be closed altogether shortly. People were still parking all along the side of the road.

Listened on BBC Sounds to the first five instalments of The Mirror and the Light, the concluding part of the Thomas Cromwell trilogy by Hilary Mantel. Read by Anton Lesser who can conjure up a multitude of voices.
