The Edge of the Wold

Morning mist

I've decided to take our morning walks as early as possible to minimise potential contacts with others. And this was such a beautiful morning, the sun was already climbing hazily over Ingleborough as we walked up Silverdale Road and out of the village, thin mist hugging the lower lying land below Arnside Tower.  I have been taking Gus on different routes to avoid whatever it is that he has been picking up that give him his tummy upsets.

This was to be the warmest day so far this year, and as I expected Reg emerged from his underground hibernaculum, blinking, bleary and muddy into the afternoon sunshine after his 6 months snooze. As usual I missed the moment of unearthing.  I had been looking at the very spot just 30 minutes before C spotted him, I thought I had heard a movement, but then all was quiet again. Anyway, there will be a blip of him soon for all those who ask about him.

The other main event of the day was a trip to a supermarket in a town nearby to pick up a click and collect order.  Many people going in and out were paying no heed at all to maintaining a 2 metre distance from each other. That doesn't bode well for the success of the lockdown.  And we should feel for those who are having to work in that environment putting themselves at risk for the benefit of the rest of us.
