Gin Quarter Day (Saturday 4th April 2020)

As the golden breeze blows gentle and fine,
Autumn leaves fall, piece after piece.
I get tipsy, on that spring wine,
By the window I fall asleep at ease.

I joined the excellent Craft Gin Club in October 2017 so by my calculations their latest exclusive bottle is the 11th I have received through my quarterly subscription, and I think this is by far the best looking bottle. They say it is worth about £100, which is pretty good considering the subscription price is just £40 and this time also includes 2 bottles of tonic water, a cocktail syrup, crisps, sweets, lemongrass spice drops, kumquat garnishes and Mangajo Sicilian lemon pressé and green tea.

The gin comes from Hong Kong and contains botanicals to capture the essence of the city: white champaca blossom, Indian sandalwood, Longjing green tea, Chinese angelica and 15-year-old aged tangerine peel. The list is almost a poem in itself.

The Cantonese poem translated above is written calligraphically on the back of the bottle, and, as you see, the perfume tree is depicted through the liquid in the bottle. The shape of the tree spells out 'beneath the perfume tree' in Chinese calligraphy, with Cantonese names of the botanicals forming the leaves. The calligraphy is in a modern style, and is by a young female Hongkonger called Sellwords.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
The Everly Brothers - The Price Of Love (recorded 4 April 1965, Nashville TN)
Although this got to number 2 in the UK, it didn't even hit the US Top 100, despite being such a great record. It was recorded 55 years ago to this day and was written by the Everlies themselves after years of not being able to use their own material for contractual reasons.
