Alesund

07.08.19
Our second port of call today - Alesund, about 250 miles north of Bergen.
I hadn't really had high expectations, when you read about it there's not a busting amount to do,  just some lovely art nouveau buildings to look at. Which is fine for us but wouldn't keep the Little Misses too engrossed!
We had our usual pre-breakfast breakfast - cornflakes with full fat milk and loads of sugar for me, yummy!, and then our actual breakfast - fruit, yoghurt, sausages, bacon, eggs, tomatoes on toast, smoothies, waffles, pancakes, muffins and pastries........
And then, rather than going for a lie down, we got off the ship for our outing to the Sunnmore Open Air Museum just outside Alesund.
We had Googled the bus we needed (the 601) and walked over to the bus stop from the ship. It was only about fifty metres away! As luck would have it the bus came in only a few minutes and soon we were on our way.
And the nice bus driver told us when it was time to get off after about fifteen minutes otherwise God knows where we'd have ended up!
The museum was fabulous! All kinds of buildings have been re-sited there  - churches, fishermen's huts, watermills, sawmills, schools, longhouses, grain stores, barns, farmhouses from the earliest single rooms with central fire pits and a hole in the roof through to wealthy Victorian landowners. All painstakingly recreated, furnished and decorated appropriately.
It was fantastic!
And the views!!! And the tranquility. Wonderful.
In a separate part they had boathouses full of boats from through the ages - from replica Viking longships to the little Heland used in WW2 by the Norwegian Resistance to ferry refugees across the North Sea to Shetland, and to bring back weapons, ammunition and resistance fighters.
What a magical place!
Once we'd seen everything we caught the bus back into town. I wanted to explore more, everyone else less so and I got into a bit of a strop!
We compromised and had a little walk round. I just wanted to see a bit more than the crappy bit around the ship. We saw some pretty painted buildings, played a bit of table tennis on a street table and then headed back.
Cocktails, pool, tea and biscuits, unlimited ice cream from the vending machines. Perfect!
As usual we dressed for our delicious dinner (see extras) and as usual the Little Misses headed back to the cabin while Mr K and I lingered. Crystallised ginger tonight, whoop whoop!!
