The Fisher King

Seemingly craving some form of routine, the children actively requested a repeat of yesterday’s walk along the river and with it being such a beautiful day again, it was an easy thing to say “yes” to.

Following a brief pitstop behind the multi storey car park (the youngest’s capacity for an ill-timed need for the toilet is truly without equal), we found the stone skimming spot and then headed further upriver to see if we could spot another kingfisher again.

I’d brought the proper camera with me (Canon G16), which although in possession of a better zoom than the iPhone still left me in want of a longer lens. Lens envy: story of my life.

Following much looking and false alarms, thinking we’d missed out, we made our way back along the path, when suddenly the boy cried out and pointed at the bright blue shape zipping up the river and flying low, close to the water, before alighting on this tree root.

I snapped a few, of which this was the best one, but on reflection will probably leave the nature photography to those with the right equipment and better eye for it!

Other key developments from the day included some new jokes written by the children which made me giggle (I’ve spared you the 101+ others that didn’t quite make the grade):-

How do ducks get home?
By quaxi.

What did the calm stick say to the cross stick?
Snap out of it!

The day finished strongly with a very nice FaceTime, a rare, stunning game victory for yours truly and the introduction to a new and interesting superhero whose CV I wasn’t previously familiar with.

Stay healthy.
