Skim read

When both of my youngest children were even younger I used to enjoy taking them out on the back seat of my bike for a little ride across Kendal.

We didn’t venture too far, but as I cycled down the canal path and along by the river we’d chat away, maybe sing a couple of songs and keep an eye for the rabbit which we saw once, but never saw again.

The other staples of these jaunts were shouting under the canal bridges to enjoy the echos and then getting down to the area by Dockray Bridge to skim stones.

With the weather being so glorious, today we walked alongside the river trying to spot fish and kingfishers. No sign of the former, but we did spot the latter and its colour was truly stunning.

Following a prolonged dry spell, the river is very, so we were easily able to skim stones across the width of it. On the opposite side were two posts which formed an erstwhile goal, so m’boy and I played skim football, whilst m’youngest hoyed what can only be described as small boulders into the water, enjoying the big splashes and sounds.

One of her efforts is captured mid-flight in this shot!

It’s been a fun day, which included a close haircut for m’boy, a mini egg hunt and laughing until we cried watching the first Toy Story.

A lovely start to the Easter break.

Stay healthy.
