The rain in Spain

... falls mainly on the Costa Tropical. As seen from the kitchen window ... the garden is becoming a jungle, and we have no tools to tame it. It drizzled on and off more or less all day.

We'd put off our big shop from Saturday to Monday, and it was S's turn. He returned heavily laden, and his haul included 3 kg of flour -- hurrah! I duly made some more hot cross buns. For lunch I made a ragu bolognese, served with tagliatelle, and a loquat and raspberry crumble. The ragu wasn't the best I've ever made, but the crumble was delicious. We'd got low on supplies -- it's reassuring to have the shelves full again and be able to expand the culinary repertoire a bit.

Later our neighbour C phoned to say a friend had been fined 600 euros by the police for leaving the supermarket with only a bottle of Coke and a few other bits and bobs. They ignored her protests that she couldn't walk very well and hence couldn't carry very much, concluding she was just using it as an excuse for an outing. Gulp. Not that we are likely to fall foul of this as we are determined to shop only once a week.

We have duly watched Monsieur le Président's practically weekly address to the nation; lockdown in France is now extended to 11 May, but he seems determined that some restrictions will be relaxed at that point. Now for the usual evening entertainment ... wine, pâté on toast, film. We started watching Alain Resnais' Aimer, Boire et Chanter last night but gave up because the Internet connection was so flaky. So we finished watching tonight. Resnais had a period of adapting Alan Ayckbourne plays in a very, er, quirky way. In this case everything was filmed in cartoon colours in front of rickety scenery. It was his last film, released just before his death, so I guess it's appropriate that it ends with a coffin.

BTW, if you need cheering up during lockdown I recommend clicking through the links in the comments on the "Five words" challenge.
