Music time

You may or may not know but I am a cellist and I love to play. I started when I was 9 years old and in my day I think I was quite good. When the family came along it went on the back burner for quite a long time but through difficult year in my adult hood, playing became a really important part of me getting life back on an even keel - it was a way of me being able to get lost in the music and also something I love to do. I now really feel like my music is part of me.

I play often with a friend of mine Vikki, which is a violinist and we have performed in a few local events - Christmas and Spring Fayres. We were due to play at a wedding in May but of course that is sadly not going to happen now.

Vikki and I, and also Honeycombebeach, our number one fan, went to watch a show last year at our local theatre where a cellist played Elgar's Cello Concerto which if you don't know it is a fabulous and iconic piece. I think she will agree it was brilliant. I did mention to her that I want to perform it one day and I think once we watched and heard it, we both know I have my work cut out!

So, this evening, I had the opportunity to play and I took it. I did some practice on Beethoven's three duets, which Vicky and I are learning, Faure's Elegie, which I love and also had a little play of Elgar. I am also the sort of person that when faced with a challenge will work pretty hard to make sure it happens.

So whilst my younger years are behind me, I still have plenty ahead to tick this music box of performing the piece one day and I hope I get the opportunity to once the world gets back to a little normality.

I thought a quote about music would be most appropriate today:

"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." - Plato
