Still Open

I passed the butchers shortly after 7 this morning on my exercise walk and it was already open. The fishmonger is operating restricted hours at the moment. The butchers always seems to do a good trade.

Day 33 / Day 25 of Lockdown (for my record only)
UK deaths up 847 to 14,576. Italy up 575 to 22,745, Spain up 348 to 19,478. US deaths exceed 35,000, but still there are protests against the lockdown measures in some States.

Not a good day with a leading physician saying deaths could reach 40,000 as the govt did not react quickly enough and that we could face up to 6 waves before a vaccine becomes available; testing take up is slower than expected so it is being offered to more public service staff; the Governor of the BoE saying emergency lending to businesses 'has to be sorted out', PPE shortages are still occurring; the press are questioning why we're not saying people should wear masks in certain circumstances like in other countries;  and councils are warning they could be facing financial failure. The furlough scheme has been extended until the end of June and a vaccine task-force has been launched. The first patient tests of a vaccine in the UK start next week. The number of deaths in Wuhan has been revised upwards by 50%. Captain Tom’s fundraising passes £20M - just fabulous!
