On a Spring Morning

I saw all of this on my early morning exercise walk - Spring is definitely going ahead full throttle. I definitely have more energy today, so did a bit of gardening this morning before sitting in the sun reading this afternoon.

Day 32 / Day 24 of Lockdown (for my record only)
UK deaths up 861 to 13,729 (whilst numbers are up after the B/H weekend, not as much as I feared, so numbers would appear to be plateauing). Lots of talk about keeping the R transmission rate below 1 as it now is in the community. Italy up 525 to 22,170, Spain up 551 to 19,130.  Germany is releasing some lockdown measures. The US unemployed claims are up 5.25M this week, with 20M jobs lost since mid March.

UK lockdown is extended by at least 3 weeks. I heard that 400,000 people live in care homes in the UK. ONS analysis of CV deaths said men are twice as likely to die as women; and 91% had pre existing conditions, but still early to draw conclusions (I would be interested in how many have pre-existing conditions in the UK!). EU Commissioner admits that too many let Italy down at the start of the outbreak. 99 year old Captain Tom Moore completes 100 laps of his garden and has now raised over £15M for NHS Charities Together. Very emotional to watch him complete the 100th lap through a guard of honour formed from the Yorkshire Regiment who saluted him.
