A Brand New Day

Just before midnight, the power supply came back on. When I woke in the morning the storm had moved on and the sky was blue. Birds and insects emerged from their shelters, including this Monarch butterly feeding from a Duranta shrub in the garden.

Things are beginning to return to normal here as people clean up. There are still many power lines down and fallen trees that are being dealt with around the clock. The cyclone has been a reminder of how precious life is and how flimsy is our illusion of safety and civilisation.
