Spring Flowers

A nice early morning for my exercise walk on full day 40 of lockdown. G had told me about a different route through the woods which I tried today and which was lovely. Another easy day, I watched a film after my walk (Contagion - the reality is scarier than the disaster movie) and this afternoon I had a nice House Party catch up with two of my sisters.

Day 48 / Day 40 of Full Lockdown (for my record only)
UK deaths up 621 to 28,131, Italy up 474 to 28,710 (includes 282 not reported in April), Spain up 276 to 25,100 (adults allowed outside to exercise for the first time in 7 weeks and facemasks mandatory on public transport from Monday). The US has given emergency approval to use a drug called remdesivir to treat Covid-19 which was developed to treat Ebola. A care home in New York has reported 98 deaths linked to Covid-19. The Indian government is making it compulsory for all workers to use a CV tracking smartphone app. France has extended emergency measures until 24th July. CV deaths are low but rising fast in Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Russia.

The daily briefing focused on £76M support for the vulnerable in society including the homeless and victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and modern slavery. Daily testing went down to 106,000 on Friday. A new treatment is to be trialed in the UK as used elsewhere of using blood plasma from people that have recovered from the virus. Care home residents don't necessarily show the same symptoms as younger people or show them as early. Rolls Royce is to cut up to 8,000 jobs. It was nice to see that one of the names Boris and Carrie have given their son is Nicholas as a tribute to two of the doctors that treated Boris in hospital
