The Eldest

We were trying to work out how long we’d been apart.

She had been ill just before lockdown had been announced and so hadn’t come round to mine like she normally would have, so we agreed it must have been at least 8 weeks since we last saw each other in the flesh.

With things hopefully starting to improve, we had agreed with her mother that a socially distanced walk would be acceptable.

It felt slightly odd seeing her again, because naturally we’ve kept in touch throughout with messages and video calls etc., and neither of us have been up to much, but we’ve probably spoken more over the past few weeks than we would normally!

We set off on our early evening wander in the beautiful sunshine and started yammering away, I couldn’t even tell you what we talked about, everything and nothing, but it was just nice to see her unpixellated face and hear her voice unbroken by an intermittent wifi connection.

Like my youngest two, I am so proud with how she has reacted to current events, she’s been diligent with her school work (perhaps overly so) and getting through this period in the best way she knows how.

Whilst I’m sure it would have been fine, having come this far we didn’t hug or embrace, that will have to wait for another day.

Returning her to her home, I waved to her mum and partner who were eating their dinner in the sun-drenched garden, jumped in the car and set off back to Kendal, enjoying the change of scenery as the sun begun to set.

Stay healthy.
