Socially Distanced VE Day Anniversary

It seems to have been a very relaxed and sociable afternoon in the village on the anniversary of VE Day.  Plenty of people sitting in their front gardens chatting to neighbours without breaching the social distancing rules. These ladies had clearly made an attempt at some sort of faux forces uniform.  They had been dancing earlier but sadly we missed that.

Our next door neighbours are in their 90's and we had a good chat with them about their memories of VE Day itself.  Joan was 17 at the time and remembered the tea party and the children's fancy dress competition which her younger brother won.  They were both too young to have fought in the war themselves, although they both ended up doing national service in the RAF in the next few years.

Tomorrow is Cathy and my 33rd wedding anniversary - we normally go out for a nice meal together as a treat, but with the lockdown in place I expect that tomorrow is going to be a pretty quite affair.
