Can't be sure, Sam - is that you?

Did you get it  . . .   sure you got it?

The young kid catching the wave doesn't seem to know that someone is right under him deep in the bottom of the wave (extra).   Both came out fine, no contact.

Morning newspaper headline  :  Lawmakers to return to work
Hawaii lawmakers will return to the state Capitol on Monday to reconvene in a compressed six to ten day session to advance proposals to cope with a looming budget shortfall and to try to prevent furloughs and pay cuts for public workers.
The state faces a $1.5 billion budget shortfall for this year and the fiscal year that begins July 1.  Union leaders were told the state planned to impose furloughs equal to a 20% cut in pay on May 1.   The administration later amended that plan, saying no furloughs before June1.  The lawmakers say the main purpose of the special session is to explore other options to resolve the budget shortfall.
Two possible solutions being debated are to authorize the governor to borrow money from the federal government to cover the cost of running the state government (a temporary solution needing repayment within 2 years).  The second option is to authorize the administration to issue "pension obligation bonds"  which would allow the state to borrow the money it needs to make annual pension payments on behalf of public workers.

And  :  Teachers fight pay cuts as drop in budget looms.
The state is already short 1,000 qualified teachers.   Many teachers are testifying that a 20% pay cut would force them out of the profession and trigger an exodus of educators that would end up harming Hawaii's children.

And  :  Health Department clarifies COVID-19 statistics
Three new cases bring the total up to 629, with 17 deaths.   There is no way to accurately determine how many people in Hawaii have actually recovered from COVID-19 because most people are not retested once they meet the criteria to be released from isolation.

Stay well, stay inside, and take care, everyone.
