Measure for Measure

I suppose our response to the pandemic is guided by science which in turn depends on good measurements,  so my blip is a twirl of a DVM (digital volt meter) as I can't see we have enough quality statistics yet for anyone to make any dependable decisions.   The un-twirled image is in the extra.

Definitely not too sure what to make of our PMs presentation this evening - too long on we can do it rhetoric and too short on hard fact?

I was reminded of a quote by Lord Kelvin

When you can measure what you are speaking about, and express it in numbers, you know something about it, when you cannot express it in numbers, your knowledge is of a meagre and unsatisfactory kind; it may be the beginning of knowledge, but you have scarcely, in your thoughts advanced to the stage of science.

Another quote I came across today: The only function of economic forecasting is to make astrology look respectable (John Kenneth Galbraith)

On a more positive note, we had a zoom call with our family this morning, including a discussion with our son about how he is working at home.  It has given him a welcome break from some office politics which had been causing him a few issues. Stuart sent me a recording of a webinar he produced for the software he is currently working on.  I sat through many engineering presentations in my career,  but I'd have to say this was up there with the top few percent.  If I needed civil engineering software I'd be on the phone to their sales people tomorrow morning.
I may be biased here :-)
