Stuff and Nonsense

Terrapins

The easing of restrictions meant we could officially head out in the car to spend some time outdoors, so we headed over to Spike Island and the canal again. It was warmer and sunnier than expected making for a thoroughly pleasant walk this afternoon.
I saw my first wheatear this year, but it was too far away for a decent shot and also a fleeting sighting of a pair of reed warblers, so two to add to my annual list.
I quite liked these terrapins that were sunning themselves on the opposite bank - however they were probably dumped there by someone after they got fed up of them as a pet which is quite sad. Apparently this practise has been going on for decades and it not that good for the terrapins as the temperature in the UK is not really high enough for them to survive on their own.

It was so good to get out again and we felt quite safe with not that many people about. I hope this continues as we expand our list of places to visit.
