Now, as I see it......

Then and now

I recently came across a couple of old photos of our house, and thought it would be interesting to make up a couple of 'then and now' shots from them.  I don't know for sure who the lady is standing on the doorstep on the main photo but I think I can narrow it down to one of two names of people who I know lived here in the past.  The observant will notice that there were two 'front doors'; one into the house itself and another into what was a workshop/bakehouse, and when we moved in about 25 years ago some of the older residents of the village could still remember bringing along their Sunday dinners to cook in the residual heat of the bakery oven.  Both doors had been filled in by the time we bought the house although the lintel and frame of the bakehouse door are still visible inside (it confuses delivery people that we have no front door, only two back ones) and the bakery had been demolished and where it stood, we now have a modern conservatory.

The 'extra' photo shows the view down the lane in the other direction.  Apart from kerb stones and a proper pathway down one side, it hasn't changed a lot.
