A Very Wet Day

Rain was promised for today, and the forecast wasn't wrong. It rained much of the day and the landscape is so lush and green...plants are growing so fast, lawns need cutting, trees are dripping...it's gorgeous!

I went out to the garden early today. My Itoh Peony has started to bloom - the subject of today's Blip. This is 'Lemon Dream' - a delicious pale yellow with raspberry streaks. These peonies are pretty amazing if you don't know them. Named for Toichi Itoh, the first hybridizer to successfully cross a tree peony with an herbaceous peony in the 1940's. They have an extended blooming period because they produce both primary and secondary buds. They have a lovely rounded form - about 3' high and wide which remains green throughout the season until dying back in the late fall. No staking needed. Well worth both the price and the garden space!

Be well dear Blippers!
