Hearts All Around

Sip 62, Ankle 31

My granddaughter made these garden rocks for me for Mother’s Day. They make me happy, especially the leopard.
We had an errand today at a big store, the first time we’ve bought something that wasn’t groceries. Ordered on line, paid, texted them when we were in the parking lot, and a nice young masked man brought our package to the car. It’s actually a lot easier than going into the store ever was, but only if somehow you know exactly what you want. There was also the option of waiting in a line of masked shoppers and eventually being allowed inside, but luckily we escaped that.
That may have been the highlight for today, unless you count the gardener who came to set a gopher trap under the roses. She is very very good at what she does, so I hope we’ve got little pest before he does too much damage.

The Monterey Jazz Festival, where we’ve ushered for something like 25 years, has been officially cancelled for this year. It certainly wasn’t a surprise; another loss for the performers and community. When will you feel comfortable being in a crowd again? I think we are beginning to realize that things will simply not go back to the way they were, and I hope all our best selves step forward to envision new ways to be on this planet. Yet even here, in our little bubble, large groups of protesters are rallying maskless on the beach to assert their rights to.... I’m not sure what the point is, frankly.
