Working It Out

There are a couple of boat ramps on the side of the wharf that are very popular with the sea lions. Constant noise and activity punctuate their jockeying for position on the landing. Who gets to come aboard, who gets pushed into the water, who's standing too close, who just stepped on my flipper, it goes on and on until it's suddenly absolutely quiet.  And then it starts up again, the barking, the growling and sneezing and snapping. I had a great vantage point looking down at the landing from the wharf. And there's something about the sound that always makes me want to join in, arrrrrh, arrrrrh, echoing their conversation.

The Extra is a view of the cliffs from the wharf. That's where we usually walk in the morning, starting at the hotel on the far right and going out past that little tiny lighthouse on the far left for a mile or two. Just about in the middle of the photo is the wall where the cormorants have their nests.
