Kirkcudbright Harbour

Today's the day ………………………… to be left high and dry

This is a classic view of Kirkcudbright and its working harbour - the busiest commercial fishing harbour in Dumfries and Galloway. Approximately 24 fishing vessels use the port regularly, landing shellfish - principally scallops and ‘queenies’ - with much of the landed catch being processed locally.

As you can see, it's low tide and the fishing boats moored up at the quayside are grounded.  They have no choice but to wait until the water returns before they can head off out to sea.  And even then, it will require a bit of deft manoeuvring through the red and green buoys, to guarantee them a safe passage through Kirkcudbright Bay...………………..
