Which Witch Hazel ?

About 6 years ago I bought myself and a friend a Witch Hazel for us both to grow . 2 thin sticks arrived which were planted out according to the instructions . Nothing happened for 3 yrs, my friend chucked hers in the bin whilst mine sat quietly showing no observable change then I spotted some tiny buds , it had awakened . It is slowly growing into a tree of sorts but I can’t tell if it is a Witch Hazel or a Hazel tree ( the two species are not related ) . I am quite attached to this little plant because it serves as a reminder to me that even when there seems little hope, the tenacity of life to hold on is a fierce and powerful force .
