The Importance of Being Idle

Current state of affairs aside, could we have asked for a better Bank Holiday Monday?!

For the first time in months, I woke when I was ready, which perversely was around the same time I am awoken most mornings, but today I had the luxury of coming to in my own time.

A whole day to myself with no worries about work or parenting. I had intended to quite literally do NOTHING, but with the weather being as beautiful as it has been, that would have been a crime, so a walk was on the cards – albeit with a painful left foot from yesterday’s run for some reason, but I was able to walk it off.

I headed South along the river for the first time and picked up the path to Scroggs Wood (whose name sounds like it has been lifted directly from a Roald Dahl novel). It was simply glorious, so much to see and enjoy in the cool morning sunshine. The path stuck close to the river and on entering the wood, I became aware of some scruffling about overhead and saw this chap peeking out at me from behind the branch.

With no place to be at any time, I just kept walking out into open fields until I came to a bridge, at which point I crossed over and headed back up river.

There is nothing like a walk on a sunny day to help clear the head, and to give you the time and space that is sometimes required to collect and re-order the many thoughts floating around in there. I even squeezed in a snooze in the backyard after lunch and a distinctly average film too before having another crafty walk up stream, coming back over Kendal Castle and home for a chicken pie dinner and a cheeky beer.

Stay healthy.
