Oxalis and Winter Cabbage

It’s rather pleasant sitting in the cool of the evening with the patio doors open and dusk is beginning to fall.

The story behind the cabbage and purple sprouting is that they were left over from last year so Susan planted them in her border rather than throw them away.

The purple sprouting came up as you’d expect and we let it go to seed which produced a rash of yellow flowers much favoured by bees. The cabbage didn’t grow on until the spring rather than autumn and winter which is why we have this magnificent structure in the flower border. It’s beginning to heart over now! And I like the yellow firework like explosion of the grasses in the corner.

A short ukulele zoom jam has just finished. Good fun although put on the spot to lead a song. In desperation I chose Leaving on a Jet Plane from one of our songbooks. Not played it before let alone sung it so I was more than pleased by how it went. It’s a song everyone “knows” isn’t it?

Had another challenging run up the Downs. The tracker shows nearly 700 feet of ascent. Since lockdown and doing Joe Wicks I’ve run places that I never thought I’d do again. Keeping fit for the rugby season - I don’t know which season that will be!

A quick trip to the allotment late this afternoon to pour gallons of water on everything, then home to do the same with everything here.
