Perseverance

Saturday 30th May 2020

My first real escape to freedom today. From last night until tomorrow I was supposed to be having a weekend with Huddsbird to celebrate her 50th birthday (a couple of months ago) and to share an offroad driving experience. That will have to be postponed, but we did decide we could meet up half way and chose Moses Gate Country Park.

Neither of us had been before and it was a great find. We went early to avoid the weekend crowds. Lots of water and lots of wildlife - see extras. At one point through the woods Huddsbird recognised the call of baby woodpeckers. After a bit of a search we spotted the hole, then we waited ... and waited. Both of us were getting stiff necks but we were eventually rewarded with a sight of a baby and, after waiting a bit longer, the parent as well.

We had a lovely walk, all socially distanced of course. We even managed to find two benches, with a 2m distance between them, for our picnic.

When we meet we like to share a tipple in the evening and we have a favourite drink which is not easy to get hold of. I had managed to get a bottle and I poured half and gave it to Huddsbird. Having parted company mid afternoon we finished our day with a Zoom call to raise a glass together and to view our pictures.
