Bison calf

Another beautiful day with comfortably warm temperatures and low humidity. Late morning Roger, Laura and I drove down to Big Bone Lick State Park in Kentucky, where they keep a small bison herd - currently 11, as a link back to times gone by when their ancestors, woolly mammoths and mastodons would come to the salt licks, as evidenced by the many bones and skeletons that were previously discovered here. There were two calves in the herd, both 7 or 8 weeks old - you can just see the beginning of one of his horns. We spent quite a while watching them, and talking to the same park warden we had spoken to when we visited two years ago. He was masked, and carefully keeping his distance, but was very informative and keen to share his knowledge and enthusiasm. From there we went to do some hiking in nearby Boone County - Roger and I had hiked there a few weeks ago, but Laura wasn’t with us on that occasion. There weren’t many people on the trails, but several families playing in the waters of the creek.
After dinner, we watched belatedly the Facebook stream of our church’s morning service, and started to watch the recording of today’s St. Paul Presents. This is a series of concerts our church hosts featuring varied extremely skilled musicians throughout the area. Of course the original live concerts can no longer take place, so Dan, our music director has put together a series of virtual ones over the next several weeks. Today it was Dave and Jeanine from our praise band who both sing and play guitar, and Jeanine also plays keyboard. They sang a variety of country, folk and spiritual songs.
