The Carey Burn

After a day of admin and a little pottering in the garden, I joined MrM for an evening walk from Carey Burn Bridge. We followed the path up the valley to the next bridge upstream, at the confluence of the Carey Burn with Broadstruther Burn. Not a long walk, but quite tricky in parts where the narrow path crosses steep scree slopes. We've walked the same path several times before, but this is the first time that we've ever seen litter - mostly cans and bottles (chucked down the scree, making it impossible for us to retrieve safely...), presumably left by folk who came to 'enjoy the countryside' with a few beers last weekend...

That aside, a very pleasant evening. Hardly any rain at all over the last couple of months, so there's very little water in the burn. Normally it's peaty brown and fast flowing, but today crystal clear and reflecting the blue sky as we walked up the valley. And in the wood at the top of the valley MrM spotted three red squirrels; we stood for a while and watched them perform some amazing acrobatics high up in the trees.

Lockdown was officially eased slightly from today though, judging by photos in the press and on social media of crowds enjoying the sunshine over the last couple of weekends, some people have been ignoring it for a while. MrM and I have decided to err on the side of caution, to ride out a possible second wave...
