Scoots, Shoots & Leaves

Tree percussion

On our scoot today, I stopped under this mimosa tree, which is chock full of dry seed pods. There was a breeze blowing and the pods were making the most delightful percussive sounds. I sat there for a long time until Liza, who didn't share my appreciation for the serenade, wanted to move on to new smells.

Yes, the sky was blue, the weather mild. This afternoon Hawthorne has the air of a street fair about it - masses of buskers, shoppers, pedestrians, hawkers - typical of the first spring-like weekend.

Have a look at the tree in LARGE. And here's a closeup of the pods.
