Action Replay

The chessmen watch a video
of an earlier thrilling game,
on their widescreen telly --
"But it doesn't feel the same,"
one pawn declares, "It was exciting.
Now it feels quite tame."

"Oh, bananas!" cries another pawn.
"I cannot bear to look!"
"Oh, yes -- when you were taken
by that pesky little rook!
Ha, the times that I've been taken --
I could write a flipping book!"

And so the game continues
though it drives them round the bend
to watch their tactics thwarted
leading to the same old end.
"But we can learn from errors,"
says one bishop, "and transcend."
