M'boy had made an official request to stay up late in order to have a refresher course in poker.
Being the responsible parent that I am (and remembering how it had backfired last time when he'd cleaned me out playing pontoon) and always open for any opportunity to deliver a crucial life lesson to my offspring, I agreed. After all, he just got lucky with the pontoon last time.....
Apparently, he got lucky with Hold 'Em poker too, because he once again cleaned me out. Maybe gambling isn't such a bad thing after all?
Seeing the victorious glint in his eye, I did feel compelled to send him to bed with the maxim that "you should never gamble more than you can afford to lose".
I don't think he heard that bit though as the last thing he said to me was: "you owe me ten pounds, Daddy".
I'm sure my luck will turn tomorrow....
